Master the Art of the Loaf

From the heart of a Leicestershire micro-bakery to your home kitchen.

There is nothing quite like the sound of a golden, blistered sourdough loaf “singing” as it comes out of the oven. Yet for many home bakers, the journey to that perfect crust can feel shrouded in mystery.

I’m Tomiwa, an artisan baker and founder of a Leicestershire micro-bakery. I’ve spent years mastering the rhythm of wild yeast; first for my own family, and now for the local community. Having baked thousands of loaves and worked through every kitchen mishap imaginable, I know exactly what makes sourdough succeed in a real home kitchen.

This hands-on sourdough workshop is designed to take you beyond trial and error. Over four immersive hours, I’ll demystify the process and give you the confidence to bake beautiful, bakery-quality sourdough independently.

A Hands-On Sourdough Baking Experience

This small-group artisan sourdough class strips away the jargon and focuses on practical, tactile learning. You’ll work with the dough, learn how to read it, and understand why each step matters - not just follow a recipe.

By the end of the workshop, you’ll know how to bake sourdough that looks, feels, and tastes like it came straight from a professional bakery shelf.

Why This Sourdough Workshop Is Different

  • Professional Techniques, Adapted for Home Bakers
Learn the same methods I use in my micro-bakery, carefully adapted for home ovens and everyday kitchens.
  • Real-World Troubleshooting
Because I bake professionally every week, I can explain what your dough is telling you - and how to fix common sourdough problems with confidence.
  • Tactile, Mindful & Immersive
This is not a demonstration or lecture. It’s a fully hands-on baking workshop, offering a calm, focused afternoon of flour, fermentation and mindful learning.

What’s Included in Your Sourdough Starter Kit

  • A Mature Sourdough Starter
A jar of my own Leicestershire-grown starter - the same culture that powers my micro-bakery each week.
  • Reusable Banneton
Your own proofing basket to take home and reuse.
  • The Baker’s Handbook
A printed guide with my bakery-standard sourdough recipe guidelines, simplified for consistent home baking.
  • Your First Loaf
A shaped sourdough dough, prepared by you, ready to bake in your own oven the following morning.
  • Lunch
Halfway through the day we stop for lunch together. Fresh sourdough bread and focaccia from the bakery, a selection of cheeses, and a range of fillings to suit everyone. Before you leave, you'll also take home one of our cinnamon rolls.

I had a really lovely afternoon learning everything about sourdough. Our host was extremely knowledgeable and answered our numerous queries. We go to make and shape our loaves to take home and cook the following morning. Highly recommend for anyone interested in making sourdough bread.

We had a really nice afternoon learning about the secrets of sourdough. It was engaging and extremely informative! Took home the unbaked loaf to pop in the oven the following morning and it was absolutely A1.

What a fantastic afternoon learning with the lovely Tomiwa and being part of a fabulous group. I'm relatively new to this sour dough journey, but I'm absolutely hooked. I came away feeling so much more confident in the practical and technical ways of working with this mysteriously magical fermenting dough. Tomiwa takes you step by step through the baking ritual and it's so satisfying to bake and enjoy the resulting warm crusty loaf at home. 😋👌🏻

Had a really lovely afternoon. Despite being a confident cook I’d never made sourdough before so was a complete novice. Throughly recommend, and I think my first attempt turned out ok so here’s to more baking!

I really enjoyed this Workshop. The teacher had a lovely personality and explained fully how to make our first sourdough loaf. Everything was provided and we even had a late lunch and numerous cups of tea! I came home with my loaf uncooked ready to bake the next morning and the photo shows the result which I am extremely proud of.

I had a great time at this workshop, and liked the small group setting. Tomiwa is a great teacher and reassured and gave confidence for our first solo bakes. Also really like the WhatsApp community of bakers who have completed the workshop for help/advice/sharing etc. Thankyou Tomiwa!

Great workshop. Feels personalized as it was a small group. Tomiwa has a lovely, warming presence which makes this experience definitely worth it. I attended with my husband and we both have no experience in bread making. We came out with lots of knowledge and hands on experience and yummy loafs! I highly recommend this workshop.

A really good workshop, made better by the intimacy of a small group, and Tomiwa's friendly personality!

I wanted to learn new things this year and whilst I've studied bread in the past, I've never made sourdough, so this seemed like a good challenge.
Tomiwa was a lovely teacher, thorough with her explanations and easy to ask questions, she went on to create a WhatsApp group for all class goers to chat in if they wished, so we can all share our bakes and help with tips and tricks for better loaves, a really lovely online community!

If you're unsure whether to take the plunge, do it! Honestly, you won't regret it! 😁

Thoroughly enjoyed this workshop. I have tried to make sourdough bread before and went to an event where things were explained but really I needed a hands on workshop to get thoroughly immersed into the process so I could easily replicate what I had learnt in the lesson at home. I have been able to do this with the guidance given on the day - easy to follow instruction booklet and the continued support via a WhatsApp group. Trying different additions to my bread now and loving the results.

I have attempted to make a sourdough loaf previously and failed miserably so decided to take a course. I have purchased from The Bread of Life Bakery previously and loved the produce. I therefore decided to take the course with Tomiwa. I am so glad I did. She is so warm and encouraging. I was provided with a folder to take home to help me in the future.

The course is literally a step by step guide and made it so much easier to understand as it was hands on. My first loaf came out beautifully (pictures attached). I am literally in the process of making my second loaf (all by myself!!!) so hoping that turns out well too.

Didn’t know what to expect but very pleased with the way in which the course was organised as a step by step practical introduction to sourdough bread making.

Tomiwa explained the critical steps in the process and supervised each of us to ensure eventual success .

Highly recommend this half day course .

Thankyou for such an enjoyable workshop. I loved the science behind the making, as to why we need a certain temperature etc. the instruction and hands on way, was perfect with a manual to take home, including test sheets to write on for first few bakes, to make sure we get the timings right. Just made my second loaf solo at home, my house too cold which impacted but…. After baking still a load to be pleased with! Would definitely recommend

Excellent workshop. Came away with all the knowledge I need to make my own sourdough bread and a loaf that I had made to cook the following day.
Recommend to anyone who wants to learn in a friendly enviroment

Just completed the Sourdough workshop with Tomiwa along with my 13 year old grand daughter who is a novice sour dough baker, unlike myself a complete novice. I learnt so much and thoroughly enjoyed the process, relaxed and informative, with a lovely lunch included.
Every step was explained so thoroughly and understanding the science behind it is definitely going to help moving forward. Can’t wait to see how my first loaf turns out and practising more with more loafs to come. Would definitely recommend this workshop to anyone looking to bake their own sourdough, which is a must for your gut health folks.
